What is an LED Light?
LED (Light Emitting Diode), a light-emitting diode is a solid-state semiconductor device that can convert electrical energy into visible light, which can directly convert electricity into light. The heart of the LED is a semiconductor chip, one end of the chip is attached to a bracket, one end is the negative electrode, and the other end is connected to the positive electrode of the power supply so that the entire chip is encapsulated by epoxy resin.
The semiconductor wafer consists of two parts, one part is a P-type semiconductor, in which holes dominate, and the other end is an N-type semiconductor, where electrons are mainly. But when the two semiconductors are connected, a P-N junction is formed between them.
When the current acts on the wafer through the wire, the electrons will be pushed to the P region, where the electrons and holes recombine and then emit energy in the form of photons, which is the principle of LED light. The wavelength of light, which is also the color of light, is determined by the material that forms the P-N junction.
The LED light is an electroluminescent semiconductor material chip, which is cured on the bracket with silver glue or white glue, and then connects the chip and the circuit board with silver or gold wires, and is sealed with epoxy resin around it to protect the inner core wire. Finally, the housing is installed, so the shock resistance of the LED light is good.
LEDs can directly emit red, yellow, blue, green, cyan, orange, purple, and white light. At first, LED was used as an indicator light source for instruments and meters. Later, LEDs of various light colors were widely used in traffic lights and large-area display screens, resulting in good economic and social benefits. Take a 12-inch red traffic light as an example. In the United States, a long-life, low-efficiency 140-watt incandescent lamp is used as the light source, which produces 2000 lumens of white light. After the red filter, 90% of the light is lost, leaving only 200 lumens of red light. In the newly designed lamp, Lumileds used 18 red LED light sources, including circuit losses, a total of 14 watts of power consumption, which can produce the same light effect. Automotive signal lights are also an important area of application of LED light sources.
For general lighting, people need more white light sources. In 1998, the LED that emits white light was successfully developed. The LED is made by encapsulating a GaN chip with a yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG). The GaN chip emits blue light (λp=465nm, Wd=30nm), and the Ce3+-containing YAG phosphor made by high-temperature sintering is excited by this blue light and emits yellow light with a peak value of 550nLED lamp m. The blue LED substrate is mounted in a bowl-shaped reflective cavity, covered with a thin layer of resin mixed with YAG, about 200-500 nm. Part of the blue light emitted by the LED substrate is absorbed by the phosphor, and the other part of the blue light is mixed with the yellow light emitted by the phosphor to obtain white light.
For InGaN/YAG white LEDs, by changing the chemical composition of the YAG phosphor and adjusting the thickness of the phosphor layer, various colors of white light with a color temperature of 3500-10000K can be obtained. This method of obtaining white light through blue LEDs has the advantages of simple structure, low cost, and high technical maturity, so it is widely used.
What is LEP Light?
LEP (Light Emitting Plasma) plasma light source, which is different from traditional metal halide lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, electrodeless lamps, and LED light sources, is completely a new generation of light-emitting principles. The comprehensive utilization efficiency of light efficiency can reach 99%. It has the characteristics of fast start-up preheating, strong fog permeability, high luminous efficiency, long-range, no insect trapping, good color rendering, low power consumption, long life, and a strong sense of illumination on the road surface. In the United States, it has been recognized by the industry and the government.
Application of LEP on Olight Flashlight
At the same time, after unremitting efforts, Olight has completed the comprehensive development of a plasma light source in gun light and successfully developed the World's First LEP WML for Short Setups - Valkyrie turbo, showing the incomparable superiority of high technology in the field of lighting. Olight Valkyrie Turbo is much brighter with a max light intensity of 70,225cd at the same distance and 530 meters throw. Not only farther but also brighter and clearer. Powered by two widely available CR 123A batteries, it includes three modes of lighting turned on by just a single press: turbo, constant and momentary. Generated by a high-performance cool white LED source, it is capable of running up to 184 minutes, perfect for long-range illumination and target practice.
There is no other profound technology and performance that Valkyrie Turbo has had before. At the size of a regular LEP light, it is compact and small, only 1.44 wide, under 3.56 inches long and a height of 1.33 inches. In terms of the figure and weight, it performs in a medium build and with a weight of only 1.33 kg(contained batteries inside), which is light enough for short setups. Moreover, this new Valkyrie turbo, though with only maximum output of 250 lumens, can still blast a pretty impressive throw of 530 meters, which is the five times length of the general football square. Compared to other conventional weapon light, it can illuminate your target over distances by using an eye-safe laser. And if you want to pick one special kind of LEP light for your handguns or pistol, this one should be your first option.
Sustainability of LEP light
Plasma LEP lighting source is a world-recognized green light source with the advantages of high energy saving, high quality, long life, high color rendering index, and no light pollution. From the perspective of market demand, with the improvement of living standards, people have higher and higher requirements for the quality of the living environment, and correspondingly higher requirements for lighting products are also put forward. With the continuous advancement and updating of LEP product technology, LEP will replace traditional light sources and be popularized in the lighting industry, which will not only reduce economic costs but also save energy and reduce environmental pollution.
The difference between LED light and LEP light
The LEP light belongs to the same green light source as LED, and the color fidelity of LEP is very good, almost the best among artificial light sources at present.
LEP light efficiency is higher than that of LED, and it has better energy saving. When the power of LEP is greater than 280W, it is equivalent to the brightness of 1000 watts of metal halide lamps.
The LEP light overcomes the instability of LED luminous volume and breaks through the bottleneck of LED's serious long-term light decay, unstable life, and not easy heat dissipation. It achieves the characteristics of small light decay and continuous brightness. After maintaining the light effect for 50,000 hours, the light decay is only 20%. At present, this feature cannot be matched by any light source. The working life of LEP is 60,000 hours. However, the working life of its power supply is the same as that of LED, generally only 20,000 hours. At present, the working efficiency of the power supply is 92%.
In most applications where high illumination is required, LEP does not compete with LED lighting. Rather, it serves as a high-output complement. To that end, LED may be used for low and medium illuminance while LEP can take over high illuminance needs because of the smaller lamp size. But LEP’s small size makes it much more cost-effective as lumen output increases. Thank you for reading!
