Let's talk about Olight newest, and in my opinion, best EDC knife to date that they have come out with. Olight has continued to listen to the customers and it really shows. The new locking system and new design really make this knife pop. So whether you are an avid everyday carrier or just a once in a while knife user. The Mettle is one of the best all-around knives to use.
Mettle Knife Features:
🔥🔥🔥Compact and Portable Design:
Coming in at a length of 4.26 inches (Closed), the Mettle is the perfect size for all pockets. The detachable deep carry pocket clip, which you can also swap to either side depending on which pocket you carry in, makes it versatile and comfortable to put in your pocket. Olight has come out with two color options, OD Green and Orange. It's really hard to choose just one so I opted for both. Orange is great anytime I’m going outdoors or in the woods, as I want to make sure if I drop it or for some reason, lose it, I can see it on the ground. But OD Green has got to be one of my favorite colors. Just a really nice forest deep green that calls to you. I love the color options.
🔥🔥🔥Butter smooth deployment:
If you are opening the Mettle for the first time, or for the 500th time, it never gets old. The effortless deployment of the blade with the ever-so-satisfying click when it locks. Running on ball bearings allows it to really function smoothly and dependably all the time.
🔥🔥🔥The steel of choice:
If you are someone who doesn’t know much about knives or maybe just not about the steel they use on them, you may not know just how important the blade steel is. It not only can make or break a knife, literally but its what truly can differentiate a great knife from a “gas station” knife. 154CM is an all-around fantastic blade steel. With 1.05% carbon in its structure, it is classified as high-carbon steel and makes for increased strength and hardness. 154CM has great edge retention so you don’t find yourself sharpening all the time. Whether taking down boxes or hacking wood it’ll be sure to stay sharp a lot longer. One thing I think a lot of people don’t think about is corrosion resistance. The main advantage of this type of stainless steel over says pure carbon steel is rust. Even stainless steel can rust over time, but the high chromium content offers lots of protection. In short, if you are someone who buys knives all the time or you just want the best bang for your buck, in my opinion, the steel is what makes the blade.
🔥🔥🔥G10 Handles:
There is a lot of divide in the knife community around handle material. Some swear G10 is the only way, while others say it has to be aluminum. While there are dozens of different materials that are used on handles, G10 in my opinion is one of the more versatile ones. Made as a high-pressure fiberglass laminate, it is the toughest of the glass fiber resin laminates. The leaf design and contoured handles of the Mettle really make it a joy to hold. It feels comfortable and easy to handle, even when it's wet or grimy, the texture really allows for a secure grip.
🔥🔥🔥Button Lock:
The button lock is a new feature for Olight, and it makes for a great one. Most of their other knives have a liner lock push-away style, which can sometimes make it easy to cut yourself. Using the button lock allows the user's hands to be entirely out of the way of the blade when closing the knife, which makes it a lot safer to handle, especially for someone who may not be as experienced. But best of all, the button makes it really fun to open and close. I could sit on the couch and watch a movie or a show and just open and close all day. That is until my wife kicks me for annoying her with the constant clicking!
🔥🔥🔥Cost:
This year's Holiday event starts on December 15th at 8:00 PM EST. There are some incredible products and deals happening that shouldn’t be passed up. The Mettle off sale is running $84.99 when writing this. During the sale, it will be 💰💰💰$67.99! 😲😲😲A sub $70.00 knife like this can’t be passed up. The value for what you get in this configuration with the blade steal and design can't be beaten.
🔥🔥🔥Blade Style:
The drop point blade on the Mettle is nothing new or fancy, in fact, it’s a style that you look at and probably just think it's pretty plain and simple. My thoughts on this are simple, just that, simple. This drop point style has been around for a very long time, and there is a good reason for that, it works. At 3.24 inches in length, it allows for a compact style of blade that folds easily and fits in your pocket, while still providing a great size for doing small and larger jobs. You just can't go wrong with a drop-point blade.
Overall Thoughts and Conclusion:
So what do you use a knife for? Camping, fishing, outdoors? Maybe you keep in on your dresser as a tool to use when you need to open up those Olight packages. Maybe you just need something reliable and easy to carry for your every day needs. Weighing in at just 3.69 oz, this knife is an all around incredible tool to have. In the end, and in the simplest way, the Mettle is just another knife. And it really just depends on what the uses are for you. I believe that every job has a tool, and the Mettle really can fill a large amount of those jobs. Olight has done a fantastic job at making quality tools that don’t break the bank. Having spent thousands of dollars on knives myself, I find myself reaching for Olights knives more then others. Including the Mettle.
