The Baton series is a very popular series in the Olight line-up of flashlights. It is easy to understand why, with a variety of sizes and performance options, there’s a Baton to fit almost any need. With controls that are intuitive, operating them is quick and easy, yet the performance and modes available are far from limited. Unlike the tactical series of lights, there is no tail switch, which is a positive for those concerned with reliability of operation while being used in environments where metal shavings or debris might be present. Simply stated, every light in the Baton series is highly reliable, easy to use and provides a lot of brightness options. The recent release of the Baton 3 Pro is no exception and is a great upgrade to the S2R Baton II. And now Olight is expanding the Baton line-up again with the release of the Baton 3 Pro Max!
Performance and Styling Upgrades
The Baton 3 Pro Max brings a large amount of performance and physical upgrades to the Baton line-up. The max output is bumped up to a whopping 2,500 lumens in turbo mode. To put this in perspective, this puts the Baton 3 Pro Max above the Warrior Mini 2 and Warrior 3S in terms of max output.
However, with candela between 4,482 and 5,295(depending on whether you choose the CW,NW,or limited edition warm white versions), the Baton 3 Pro Max is purely a flooder and not a thrower. Even on the high setting, with 800 lumens of light, the Baton 3 Pro Max provides and amazing amount of room filling light. However, a double tap of the side switch and you access the full 2,500 lumens of brightness for up to a minute of runtime before stepping down to the high setting for an additional 240 minutes of continuous runtime. There are six total modes available, strobe, moonlight, low, medium, high, and turbo. In moonlight mode, you get an amazing 60 days of runtime!
What‘s more, The optical system has been optimized, allowing the hidden proximity sensor to help protect you without being oversensitive or affecting the light’s beam pattern.the light ships with the proximity sensor turned on. however, it can be turned off temporarily or permanently and turned on again as desired by the user.
Physically the Baton 3 Pro Max shares many of the styling and functional upgrades at the Baton 3 Pro, with the same knurling, larger recessed side switch and beefier clip. In fact, the clip is so substantial that there is almost no chance of it coming off. Also, as it is on the Baton 3 Pro, the Max clip extends to cover almost three quarters of the full body of the light, giving you high degree of security no matter where you have it clipped, whether a pocket or a pack. It is worth noting that the increase in performance over the Baton 3 Pro means that the Baton 3 Pro Max is substantially larger. It is 0.5 inches longer, 0.10 inches larger in diameter and more than 1.5 ounces heavier, thanks to the 3.6V 5,000mAh rechargeable battery.
Because of the larger diameter, it doesn’t “disappear” into a pocket with the same ease as the Baton 3 Pro. However it is perfectly at home attached to a pack or within a bag, and there’s even an “L” stand included so you can mount it where you would need it most. A new feature included on the Baton 3 Pro Max is the ability to see the battery level simply by shaking the light. Once you give it a shake, an LED light within the switch will illuminate and flash for a second or two letting you know approximately how much battery life is remaining. This was useful as I did not have to turn the light on by activating the switch in order to determine how much power was left.
Another neat feature included in the Baton 3 Pro Max is the ability to set a timer. Much like setting a sleep timer for you TV, this enables you to set a timer to automatically turn the flashlight off after either 3 or 9 minutes.
By the way,The Desert Tan model is made of Magnesium Alloy, which is lightweight and high strength, offering great impact resistance and heat dissipation characteristics.Olight's First Magnesium Alloy (Desert Tan) Flashlight!
Typical Use Scenarios
The Baton 3 Max Pro is a perfect light for around the campsite. The amount of flood that is produced by this light is truly amazing. Cooking dinner over a campfire after dark? The Baton 3 Max Pro provides a wide area of illumination, enabling you to move around and prepare food without fear of tripping over something.
Need a little light to be able to climb into your sleeping bag at the end of a long day of hiking? Simply activate the timer function and then hang the Baton 3 Pro Max overhead while you finish your nighttime routine. After a few minutes it will automatically shut off, enabling you to drift off into your slumber.
The Baton 3 Pro Max is also well suited around the house. Because it provides such a wide area of flood, I found it very useful for a number of tasks at home. Searching the dark corners of the garage was no problem with the Baton 3 Pro Max in hand. Working on my truck after dark was no issue either as the Baton 3 Pro Max illuminated the entire engine compartment for me.
Need to check your yard or property at night? The wide area of illumination provided by the Baton 3 Pro Max is perfect for seeing everything around you. And once during a short duration power outage, I placed the Baton 3 Pro Max standing up on a table pointing at the ceiling. The amount of light reflecting back down provided the perfect amount of ambient light for my family.
Final Thoughts
The entire Baton series of lights, from the small but mighty Baton 3 , to the full size Baton 3 Pro, is incredibly useful and reliable. Each light in the series fulfills a need, and does so very well, and the addition of the Baton 3 Pro Max is no exception. This light is a dedicated “flooder” and it does this job extremely well. The added features of a timer function and battery indicator make this light even more useful. And while it is longer and “beefier” than the Baton 3 Pro, it is still a bit smaller than the Seeker 3 Pro and it has become the light I reach for most often.
